Libeert family

About Libeert

At Libeert, as well as delicious chocolate, we create delightful moments of excitement and connection. Our Belgian family business is famous for its beautifully crafted chocolate figurines. Our creations are not just tasty—they also look adorable, don’t you think? Adding immediate fun to every occasion and creating magical memories that last a lifetime.

Libeert’s story began in 1923 when grandpa of the family, Joseph Dequeker, founded a small chocolate factory in Belgium. In the 1950s, he was joined by his daughter Thérèse and her husband Antoine Libeert. The result? The introduction of the first hollow chocolate figurines—launching the custom of these cheerful characters! Today, the third generation is involved in keeping up good traditions, as well as coming up with good ideas to keep our planet and chocolate safe.

If you're going to tell a story, then why not do it with chocolate?

Our sustainability promise

As sustainability is important to us, we have developed a roadmap on our efforts that we report on transparently every 2 year. It consists of:

Ethical sourcing: Chocolate is precious, and so are our cocoa farmers. That’s why we pay extra to improve their living and working conditions. Also, we invest in the next generation’s education, in order to stop child labour and build talent for the future.

Carbon footprint reduction: We have ambitious goals to minimise our carbon emissions, in line with the Paris Agreement. Since energy is essential to make our chocolate, we invest in energy efficient technologies. Our solar panels cover 45% of our energy needs. For the rest of requirements we use green energy. We also reduce our waste with recycling initiatives.

Responsible consumption: At Libeert, we use only natural ingredients. In addition, we select non-GMO ingredients and avoid palm oil. And our packaging? What we do use is always recyclable. Plus, we try to use less of it, so we think carefully when developing new products. Also, by working with biodegradable materials we need less plastic. The cardboard packaging we need has the FSC label and is sourced from responsibly managed forests.

Choc Around the Clock

Have you eaten your fun figurine already or are saving it for later? Or perhaps you’re still deciding which character you like most?
In the meantime, why not have some fun with the activities below.

F.A.Q.

Do Libeert products contain allergens?

We value transparency and your safety. That’s why we clearly highlight the presence of the five key allergens (gluten, nuts, milk, soy, and eggs) in bold within the ingredients list of each product. If there is a potential risk of cross-contamination, you’ll see this indicated under ‘may contain traces of’. We work hard to minimize these risks as much as possible, so you can enjoy our products with confidence.

Are Libeert products suitable for vegetarians and vegans?

The majority of our products are suitable for vegetarians. However, they are not suitable for vegans as they contain dairy ingredients. Also, they are not organic. For detailed information about each product, please refer to the packaging under the allergy information section.

How should Libeert chocolate figurines be stored, and what is their shelf life?

To keep the quality of our products at its best, store in a cool and dry place, at room temperature between 12-18°C. Avoid strong odours and direct sunlight. The best before date is printed on the back of the packaging. But, you’ll probably have gobbled them up long before.

What does Belgian chocolate mean?

Our cocoa beans are sustainably sourced from cocoa producing countries. Then, we use this cocoa to make all of our chocolate figurines in our Libeert factory in Belgium. That makes it Belgian chocolate. Did you know, our maître chocolatiers have been busy for more than 100 years, perfecting our family recipe, to create deliciously rich soft and creamy chocolate of the best Belgian quality. Our fun figurines are also designed in Belgium by our chocolate creators.

Do Libeert chocolate figurines contain palm oil?

No, Libeert does not use palm oil in its chocolate.
